Title:

Fecal Microbiota Transplant as a Treatment for Ulcerative Colitis

Abstract:

Ulcerative Colitis (UC) is a chronic auto-immune and inflammatory gastrointestinal disease which pathogenesis is still not well understood. It is generally agreed that this condition is triggered and maintained by an imbalanced gut microbiota. The current standard treatments relieve the symptoms but fail at eradicating the disease. This presentation will discuss and propose methods to evaluate Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT) as a treatment for UC.

Title:

How to Choose Stool Donors in Trials That Use Fecal Microbiota Transplant

Abstract:

The human gut microbiome is a key determiner of health. Fecal microbiota transplant, which is believed to alter a patient's microbiome, is an emerging therapy for many diseases. However, existing clinical trials do not have mechanisms for rationally selecting stool donors to provide the transplants. I will present a quantitative strategy for donor selection, which should help improve patient outcomes and scientific results in clinical trials that use fecal microbiota transplants.
