Members of the undergraduate class of 2013 were recognized for their outstanding achievements at the BE Senior Dinner held at the MIT Faculty Club on the evening of June 5, 2013, two days before Commencement.

Asmamaw Wassie, Michael Hwang and Kevin Li received the Znaty-Merck Outstanding Research Award, presented to them by Professors Ron Weiss and Jacquin Niles. Shelley Ackerman, Colin Beckwitt and Jonathan Gootenberg were awarded for their Outstanding Service to the BE Department by Professor Scott Manalis, host of the dinner’s program.

Department Head Doug Lauffenburger addressed the senior class on ways to lead an effective and influential life; as a parting gift, he gave each senior a copy of the book, Science Lessons: What the Business of Biotech Taught Me About Management by Gordon Binder, former Amgen CEO and Life Member Emeritus of the MIT Corporation. Professor Lauffenburger personalized each copy with a handwritten inscription. Other dinner attendees included the academic office staff and 16 members of the faculty.
