Engineered Synthetic Biomaterials for Vascularized 3D In Vitro Models

Significant progress has been made in the development of in vitro model systems designed to mimic human tissue; however, many of these models are still limited by their dependence on naturally derived extracellular matrices, and their lack of vascularization. In this work, I employ synthetic, engineerable hydrogels to examine fundamental cues in the development of vascular networks. This vasculature can then be integrated with tissue specific cell types to generate vascularized tissue models.
