Weiss Lab Birnbaum LabCell therapies encode their behavior at the point of design, yet the diseases they treat change in location, intensity, and duration. Genetic circuits offer a route to conditional control, but those reaching the clinic compute in binary and rely on bacterial and viral proteins that the immune system recognizes. Here, we build neuromorphic circuits implemented entirely in non-coding RNA, weighing multiple inputs against tunable thresholds to produce graded output, and apply them to a broad antiviral defense in airway epithelium.

Lauffenburger LabEndometriosis is a common debilitating disease characterized by the growth of endometrium-like tissue outside of the uterus. Endometriosis is known to be inflammatory, yet the specific mechanisms of persistence remain unclear. Using patient-derived in vitro models of the endometrium, we recapitulate the inflammatory signatures that are associated with disease. Further, we combine targeted measurement and mathematical models to assess the effects of putative drug treatments on crosstalk between macrophages and endometrial fibroblasts in disease.
